Happy Canada Day to you all, from Elizabeth at Drudge Family Farm!

I am so grateful to be a Canadian and to live in such a wonderful country! Our ancestors came to Ontario in 1797, cleared the land and built barns and houses. They knew the soil would be good for farming because of all the wonderful Maple trees! They began to make Maple Syrup right away, because it was their only source of sugar. Our family line has been making Maple Syrup in Ontario ever since 1797. The only year they didn’t make Maple Syrup was 1880, when they had a severe ice storm which caused a lot of damage in the woodlot and took a lot of time to clean up.

So I grew up making Maple Syrup every Spring, and have made Maple Syrup all my life in this wonderful country of Canada!

We make Maple Syrup together as a family, with our sons and their families. Our 5 grandsons are the ninth generation of Maple Syrup producers in Ontario.

On this Wonderful Canada Day be sure to enjoy some delicious Canadian Maple Syrup! For a cool treat on these warm days, make your own Milk Shake; In a blender  put some fresh strawberries, frozen blueberries, frozen raspberries, or a banana, add milk, lots of Canadian Maple Syrup, 1 teaspoon of vanilla. By using some frozen fruit, it will make your milk shake smooth and creamy.

Be sure to put Maple Syrup on your bowl of fresh strawberries!
